With the aim of creating a new, glorious identity for the city and for the estimated cost of 680 million euros, numerous new buildings were built there within a short space of time. Architectural knowledge from the 1960s and 1970s, the reconstruction of Skopje after a serious earthquake, however, was overwritten or destroyed, so that the younger new buildings are already ruinous today.
